4th August Drive to Midge Point, 100k north of Mackay

We Have had Another lovely drive, mind you we think every 3rd vehicle is either a caravan, camper, 5th wheeler, bus-come-home, loaded 4WD with tents  --- some towing a boat or a little car, that is if the (Tinny) isn't on the roof. Do people still live in houses?
We do appreciate that we are able to do this, sometimes I have to pinch myself to realise it's me.
We left the palm trees and sugar cane & bananas and went into scrub again BUT THEN it all came back. What an amazing country we live in.
Around Ayr we saw the first smoke, yes Sugar Cane fires, burning it off because this area needs irrigation to grow their sugar & the ground has the be cleared for the water to flow. It is fired to clear the leafy ground growth to make it better for the cutting and clear the ground for irrigation.
Up north there is enough rain to be able 'green' harvest the cane. They regrow for up to 5 harvests before having to re sow. All most interesting.

We had just picked Midge Point Top Tourist Park because it was on the beach and not in a City. Wow, we made  great choice, it's beautiful. Tall trees, a big circle lawn with concrete pads around the edge (a bit like the Wild West Caravan Circles in the movies.) Also more van sights further out from the circle.
We booked for 3 nights and see the weather is cooling as we look further south, so have decided to stay here a week to make the most of this beautiful weather and surroundings. Nothing to do and all day to do it in!

These  2 photos are taken from our van door.

This is at the front of our van, the next is a result of the 200 meters walk.

Now a week of ....... What ever it holds for us. Thank you Lord God.
