We went 32k North to Mareeba and again were introduced to the area and its history through a vast display at the Information Centre. Mining, Tobacco, Early Settlers, sheep, and a big WW1 display that was the recognises 100 years since ANZAC. Brian had a one on one tour through it and was most interested in it all.
On to Mareeba Tropical Savanna Wetland Reserve, dirt road and because of the time of day we didn't see many birds but we know Howard would have enjoyed it. The sun on the water was sparkling and we saw black swans and birds sunning themselves on the banks. A safe spot for them.
Called at the Peanut Palace, yes they are yummy.
The Humpty Nut World had fresh fruit and vegetables, our supply of Apple and mandarin has been restored.
We have been to Lake Tinaroo Dam and Lake, what a sight it is in the sunshine, wind was cool ..... But we coped! I chatted to a woman about Christys age who is from Tasmania, the couple have 5 children between 1 & 9, the have been on the road for 13 months, are 'home schooling' their children. They have a big van, sleeps 8. They do as much 'Free' camping as possible which is labour intensive as most places only allow 24 hours, but caravan parks cost at least $80 per night because they have 5 children. I asked if the children were getting on well... The answer .... Sometimes! I don't know if she was to be congratulated or sympathised with....... She agreed with me but said it was well worth everything.
A message for Jan R, I used TWO WASHING MACHINES this morning at once and didn't get caught, then left it on the line ALL DAY. I didn't see anyone in tears either!
Tomorrow we pack up and move to Cairns for 12 days.
