We were picked up at the gate in a big coach and spent the next 3/4 hour driving all over Cairns picking up passengers for our 1 & 1/2 gondola trip over the most amazing rainforest. There were 2 stops for us to walk and enjoy the forest. We could see both the road and rail winding its way through the forest and also the Barron River and water Falls and George. We had 2 hours in Kuranda, had lunch and a short wander through the highly tourist village then onto the train for the 1 & 1/2 hours trip back. The history of the Gondola and the train was fascinating, the train was used extensively by soldiers during WW11. We didn't know the war was so close to Australia (& New Zealand)
By the way the sky was clear and sunny until we were on the 3/4 hour Coach trip for delivery back to Coconut Caravan Park.
We sat with a young family from Auckland who were having a short holiday here before going to Portugal for 3 years with the NZ Government Trade department. Their 4 yr old daughter asked everyone ' where are you from?' Then ' everyone comes from Melbourne!' She was a cutie and will have no trouble in a strange country. It was very interesting . Another couple were beef cattle farmers fromEsperance. It's nice having the chance to talk with other tourists
