2nd July Cloncurry/Mount Isa

Another perfect day. Started with pancakes for breakfast then set out for Mount Isa 120 k and what a change of scenery. Gone was the wide, red, open spaces and now very rough, rocky, scrubby big hills (perhaps I  should say mountains, but I don't know)

We stopped to see the 'Ant Hills' and it looks as if a lot of others have done also

There were a number all the way that had been dressed up, quite cute.
I was in for a shock when we arrived in Mount Isa, I was expecting a Mining town and found a City instead. I don't quite  know where I have been. I think all I thought about the place was that it was the place to go to earn big money  ..... Back in 1962!

It's spread over a big area of very rough country & this huge copper mine is central. The Information Centre was most interested with a movie of the history which was very Good for us as we only had a day trip. It would have been better to go there instead of Cloncurry _ hind sight is great.
There were a lot of Road Trains, most have 4 and some have 3 trailers, they are so long. They are something you don't argue with and we give them a wide birth.
Photo is at the end.
This has been a most interesting day, how fortunate are we. Bruce & Dianne were here when we got back so we will have time together tomorrow and then they are heading to Mount Isa and Darwin, so we won't be meeting up again this trip. It's been so nice to see them.
Sydney Swans & Port Adelaide are tied at the moment 64 each! Yes TV works and AFL continues .....
Oh dear , a swan has just been knocked out cold, I do hope he will be all right.
Tomorrow is a quiet day, laundry etc. (yes Jan I will see if I can cause a riot in the laundry!)

  1. What is the backstory of Jan and laundries. For it to be mentioned this often, there must be something funny about it.

If it is that Jan enjoy a good laundry, please come here Jan. With a family of 5 it never EVER EVER runs out.
