4th & 5th July Travel & Normanton

We had been warned that the trip from Cloncurry to Normanton could take 5 to 6 hours ...... The roads were fine, what are they talking about? Then we came to the single lane paved areas where passing means both vehicles have to drive with one set of tyres in the dust! So glad I wasn't driving (not that I do) but Brian just took it in his stride an we and our filthy van arrived in 4 hrs- 380k. Very flat all the way, some cleared land and mostly scrub.  The cattle are pretty well all Brahman and are in smallish herds grouped together in the scrub.
We have a very good site here at Normanton &29 per night.
This morning,Sunday, we went for a day trip to Karumba on the Gulf of Carpentaria. It has been the most perfect weather, 30 and a beautiful breeze. Fish & chips in this fishing place is a must & they were delish. We enjoyed just sitting under wonderful spreading trees and seeing the ocean.
Back 'home' in time for a swim - yes me! I wasn't game to get in the spar as there were already 2 people there & that's too intimate for me! But the big pool won, help it was cold getting in, my delicate body withstood the shock and it was delicious. Now the getting out was something else ..... It was a straight up ladder, not nice gradual steps , I heaved and hauled and prayed I would make it without falling backwards into the pool and making a complete idiot of my self. Prayers were answered and I didn't make a backward glance to see who was watching me!!! Well it was really worth it.
I bought Barramundi for tea tonight from the fish shop in Karumba, don't think I could get fresher. Now to cook it properly? Have to admit that I'm looking forward to it.

This is our sight under a nice shady tree.

This is'Krys' The Savannah King in Normanton 8.63m long!
